3 Key Ways to Avoid Vaper's Tongue

Have you ever noticed that after a particularly long vaping session, you lose the ability to differentiate between different flavors? Known as vaper's tongue, this phenomenon is incredibly common. It's also fascinating on a scientific level, but that’s for another discussion.

If you've ever recorded a song, you may know that there comes a point when the ear becomes fatigued and can no longer distinguish different frequencies. Similarly, a person who works in a perfume shop may find that their nose loses its ability to detect certain fragrance notes after a long day of smelling different aromas. Vaper's tongue is like these phenomenon’s in that it's essentially caused by sensory exhaustion.

The name of this phenomenon is misleading. The reality is that the tongue doesn't lose its ability to taste. It's the nose that loses its ability to smell the vapor properly. Because of the nature of vaping, the nose works overtime whenever you take a hit, causing olfactory fatigue.

Fortunately, there are a few key ways to avoid vaper's tongue. If you're a flavor fanatic, you'll be delighted to learn that you can get back to enjoying those delicious e-juices in no time.

Take a Break

No vaper really wants to hear this but taking a break for anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days even can treat vaper's tongue completely. This allows your olfactory glands to rest to function properly once again.  If you just can't take some time off, try spacing out your vape sessions for a while. It’ll prevent complete olfactory exhaustion.

Give Yourself a Blast of Menthol

Many vapers have found that essentially shocking the senses is the best way to restore the palate. A strong hit of pure menthol is the most popular way to achieve this. Because menthol is uniquely powerful, it can reset the senses, allowing them to once again perceive the nuances of your vape juice flavor. If you're not a fan of menthol-flavored e- juices, some peppermint essential oil may be able to do the trick. Simply take a few whiffs of peppermint oil as soon as vaper's tongue develops. The menthol in the essential oil will shock your olfactory receptors instantly. Another option is to brush your teeth or use mouthwash. Again, the strong peppermint flavor can help your senses return to their normal state.

Sniff Some Coffee

Believe it or not, sniffing coffee grounds is a tried-and-true trick when it comes to refreshing the palate. The strong, earthy scent can help recalibrate the olfactory receptors. Many professional wine tasters and perfume developers find that this trick is incredibly effective. Plus, who doesn't already have coffee grounds in their home?

It Can Be Treated

As you can see, vaper's tongue is a very common phenomenon that can affect anyone. Fortunately, there are some simple tricks that can help you enjoy a pleasurable vape session once again.
