Advanced Guide to Increasing and Decreasing Your Nicotine Strengths

e-juice e-liquid nicotine strength vaping

Determining the best vaping setup for your needs can be a tricky business.  From choosing the right vaping device to figuring out which flavors tantalize you the most, there are a lot of decisions that the vaper has to make.

Another important thing to determine is how much nicotine is right for you.  We all know that nicotine is an addictive substance, meaning that choosing the right concentration of nicotine in your e-liquid can determine whether or not your vaping sessions actually leave you feeling satisfied.

If you’re thinking about changing the amount of nicotine that you consume each day, it’s crucial that you take a number of factors into consideration.  Otherwise, you can end up having a disappointing vaping experience or even end up feeling physically ill.

The good news is that you can follow this simple guide in order to figure out exactly how much nicotine should be in your e-liquid.  We’ll also walk you through the process of adjusting your nicotine level so that the transformation is as seamless as possible.

With that being said, here are some things to consider:

How Long You’ve Been Vaping

How much nicotine will satisfy you has a lot to do with how long you’ve been vaping, believe it or not.  The way in which the nicotine in a cigarette affects the body is very different from the way in which the nicotine in vape juice affects the body.

If you’ve been vaping for a while, you can probably decrease your nicotine level without feeling like you’re missing something.  That’s because the nicotine in cigarettes is far more intense when it enters the body, making it much more addictive. The nicotine in e-liquid is subtler, meaning that your body won’t start feeling as “off” if you decrease your amount.

Your Sensitivity to Nicotine

Some people are sensitive to nicotine in general.  This is especially the case for those who started vaping without any prior cigarette experience.  Before choosing a new nicotine level, ask yourself how you feel after the nicotine enters your bloodstream.  Does it make you feel jittery or dizzy? This will help you figure out how much you need in your e-liquid to keep you satisfied.

Your Vaping Priorities

Know that the amount of nicotine in an e-liquid can affect several aspects of the vaping experience.

  • Throat Hit: Generally, more nicotine means a stronger throat hit.  If that throat hit is particularly satisfying to you, keep this in mind.
  • Cloud Size: If puffy clouds make your heart skip a beat, know that the higher the nicotine level, the thinner and smaller the clouds.
  • Flavor: A higher nicotine level can actually intensify the flavor of your e-juice.
  • Smoothness: The less nicotine, the smoother the draw.  Nicotine can be slightly harsh, especially in its freebase form.
  • Length of time it takes to go through your e-liquid: If your main priority is saving money, you might want to go with a higher nicotine level.  If the nicotine concentration in your e-liquid is too low, you’ll end up going through more vape juice in a day in order to satisfy your needs.

Decide Which Type of E-Liquid You Wish to Use First

Before adjusting your nicotine level, make sure you’re vaping the right type of nicotine for your needs in the first place.

  • Freebase Nicotine: A chemically modified form of nicotine that is best enjoyed in lower concentrations.  Instead of giving users a “buzz,” it gradually builds up in the system.
  • Salt-Based Nicotine: Extracted straight from the tobacco plant and is extremely potent.  It’s closer to the nicotine that’s in a cigarette in that it can give you a “buzz” and hit the throat strongly.

Consider the Vaping Device That You’re Using

  • Pod Mod: Will give you a stronger nicotine experience because of its low wattage and its compatibility with salt nic e-liquid.
  • Sub-Ohm Kit: A sub-ohm setup, consisting of a box mod and sub-ohm tank, isn’t really designed for a powerful nicotine experience.  This type of system is best for vapers who are more interested in exhaling enormous clouds throughout the day.
  • Electronic Cigarettes: Most e-cigarettes are low-wattage devices that don’t really deliver a satisfying amount of nicotine or vapor.

Tips for Changing Your Nicotine Level

Keep these tips handy when it’s time to shake things up a little.

Tip #1: Doing It Gradually is Key

As we said, nicotine is physically addictive.  Therefore, you have to be careful when changing the amount that you consume each day.  When it comes to increasing or decreasing your nicotine concentration, do it gradually.

Suddenly dropping your nicotine level from, say, 18mg to 6mg can actually result in nicotine withdrawal symptoms.  That’s because your body has been accustomed to maintaining a certain level of nicotine throughout the day.

On the flipside, dramatically increasing your nicotine level can be quite unpleasant as well.  If your body isn’t used to this amount of nicotine, you can feel physically ill as your body struggles to adjust.  Symptoms include nausea, dizziness, edginess, headaches and sweating.

We always recommend increasing or decreasing your nicotine level one concentration amount at a time.  For example, if you vape a 20mg e-liquid and want to go down to 12mg, start by going to 18mg, then 16mg and so on.  Give your body about a week per increment to adjust.

Tip #2: Monitor How You’re Feeling

While adjusting your nicotine level, take note of how you feel.  Do you feel like you have more or less energy than before? Do you find that you’re hitting your mod way more frequently?  Do you feel like you’re running out of e-liquid quickly and spending too much money? Do you feel satisfied after each vaping session?

All of these factors will help you figure out if you’ve selected the right nicotine level for you.  But, keep in mind that vaping is largely about experimentation. What’s right for one person’s body isn’t necessarily best for your needs.  Therefore, feel free to experiment until you’re satisfied.

All About Preference

Vaping the right nicotine level has a lot to do with how much pleasure you get out of your experience.  These tips will help you decide how much to increase or decrease your amount for maximum satisfaction.
